Counting Down the Cash Drawer

Open a cash drawer session, record manual cash entries, and count the drawer down at the end of the day, reconciling what's counted against what's expected.

Contents

A cash drawer session tracks the money in your till for a shift. Opening the drawer records your starting float; cash and cheque payments are added automatically. At the end of the day you count the drawer down, and Wenmar Pro checks the count.

💡 You’ll need

  • A manager (or owner) who can open and close the drawer
  • The cash drawer turned on for your location

Enabling the Cash Drawer

The drawer must be enabled for your location. If it isn’t, the Cash Drawer report shows a note to enable it in Shop Operations settings.

Opening a Session

  1. Go to Reports → Financial → Cash Drawer and click Open Drawer.
  2. Enter the Starting Float and click Open Drawer.

Recording Manual Cash Entries

Use Add Cash Entry to log money that isn’t a payment, like a petty cash payout. In the New Cash Entry drawer, enter the Amount, pick a Type, add a Description, and click Log Entry. Add a Recipient for petty cash.

Counting Down and Closing

  1. Open your active session and click Reconcile (or Continue Close).
  2. In Physical Count, enter Cash on hand and Total Cheques.
  3. Check the Variance — Counted vs Expected. Expected cash is the Starting Float plus Cash Payments, less Cash Refunds, plus and minus manual Cash In and Cash Out entries.
  4. If the count differs, Variance Detected appears. Explain it in at least 10 characters.
  5. In Bank Deposit, set Leave for Tomorrow (Next Float), then click Confirm Close.

History and Export

Past sessions are listed on the Cash Drawer report, filterable by From and To date. Open one to see its Session Ledger, and click Export to download it as a spreadsheet.
