Reading Service Category Reports

See your revenue and gross profit broken down by service category, so you can spot which lines of work earn the most for your shop.

Contents

The Service Category report shows your sales and gross profit grouped by the type of service you perform — brakes, oil changes, diagnostics, and so on. Use it to see which categories bring in the most revenue and which ones earn you the thinnest margins.

💡 You’ll need

  • Owner or manager access to reports

Opening the Report

  1. Go to Reports → Profitability → Service Categories.
  2. The page header reads Service Category Sales. It starts on the current month.

Choosing a Date Range

Use the Range filter to pick This week, This month (default), Last month, This quarter, or Custom. Choosing Custom opens start and end date fields. You can also narrow the results with the Writer (advisor) and Tech (technician) filters.

Reading the Numbers

Five summary cards across the top: Total Services, Service Sales, Overall GP%, Avg Service, and Billed Hours.

The Category Breakdown table lists each category with Services, Billed and Actual hours, Fees, Disc., Est. Tax, Service Totals, Stock Cost, Non-Stock, Sublet Cost, Labor Cost, Total Cost, GP$, GP%, and Avg Service. Click a sortable heading (like Category, Service Totals, or GP%) to reorder. A Totals row sums the whole period. Two charts — Service Totals by Category and GP% by Category — visualize the same data.

Exporting

Click Export PDF to save the report as a PDF, or Export CSV to download it as a spreadsheet for your books. Both respect your current filters.

Tips

  • Sort by GP$ or GP% to find your most profitable categories.
  • Filter by Tech to compare how each technician’s work performs by category.
